Power Auras is a wonderful add-on for monitoring procs, trinkets, buffs, debuffs, and other fun things. It is however, very complicated-looking and thus requires some work to setup. I'm going to cover some of the basics that I use for setting up useful auras.
To start the interface, type /powa, then hit New.
At the top of the new box, you set the color/style of the aura you're working on. I use a Life Tap aura to tell me when my Glyph of Life Tap is NOT working. I have set this to white/circlethingeepattern. You can make this whatever is comfortable for you. There are 54 different circles and lots of colors.
The lower half is where you setup the aura trigger itself. I'm going to cover two types: Buffs, and Procs.
Buffs
Under "Activation" select Buff.
In the ??? line, type in the name of the Buff (e.g. Life Tap for the Glyph of Life Tap ability). This must match the name of the buff you are looking for. To determine the name, cast it, then mouseover the buff.
There are then a number of check boxes.
Invert: Makes the aura appear when the buff is NOT active. Click this one, so that you know you need to buff yourself.
In Combat: Makes the aura appear only when you are in combat. Click this one, so that you don't see the buff when you aren't in combat.
Mounted/In Vehicle: Set to X so that the aura doesn't appear when you are unable to cast it (i.e. when jousting, in a tank, etc.)
Spec 1 / Spec 2: Check on or off so that the buff appears when useable (e.g. if you only have the buff in Elemental Shaman spec, don't keep it on for your heal spec)
Procs
Under “Activation” select Buff
In the ??? line, type in the name of the Proc (e.g. Molent Core for the Molten Core ability). This must match the name of the buff you are looking for. To determine the name, cast it, then mouseover the buff.
There are then a number of check boxes.
Invert: Makes the aura appear when the buff is NOT active. X this one, so that you it only appears when the buff procs.
That's about it. The tricky part is getting the name of the buff right.
